This year we got together to make New Years Resolutions. The kids had really cute things they wanted to do for the new year and Jake and I basically have a long list of things to do.
Our family resolutions are:
Read the Book of Mormon (Jacob's primary teachers challenged him to do it)
Exercise every Saturday
Everyone to read 20 chapter books (Jacob & Amara have to read themselves - Ethan, Keira, & Soren will be read to) - (So far Jake has read 3, I've read 2, Jacob 3, Amara 2, Ethan, Keira, & Soren 1) - We have a chart and everything to keep track. When we reach our goal we'll go somewhere special. (I'm thinking Sea World San Diego)
Jacob wants to get his Bear (Scouts) by March's Pack Meeting
Amara wants to be more active and drink more water
They both said they wanted to be nicer to Ethan. We said it should always be that way.
Jake and I both hope to lose weight, get the yard finished, and do a few things around the house.
Here's hoping for a great year and that we accomplish all our goals and make our dreams come true.

20 chapter books seems like a lot for the kids. You guys are ambitious. I read like 30 books a year and I barely have time for that. How do you get your younger kids to sit for chapter books? Nicoley is entirely uninterested. But, I'm not really sure which chapter books to start her on.
ReplyDeleteWhat books are you reading your kids?
We started out reading "The Magic Treehouse". Jacob has become pretty interested in reading the encyclopedia bratanica volumes. He has read 3 in 2 weeks. (He checks them out at the school library) Amara LOVES, LOVES the Rainbow Magic fairies. You can borrow both series if you want. The Treehouse (48 books) & Fairies (7 books) are about 80 pages and the chapters are about 8 pages with pictures. We strarted out reading 1 chapter at night and I changed the names in the book to be their names (Treehouse main characters 9 year Jack and 8 year old Annie - Jacob & Amara). It is really hard to find the right books for each child.
ReplyDeleteThose are all good goals. Great job teaching your kids to set and achieve goals.
ReplyDeleteI've seen the Magic Treehouse on the digital library, maybe I should check them out. Back in the day, I read Sweet Valley Kids (when I was like 9). But that was mostly because Marie was reading Sweet Valley High and I wanted to be like her.
ReplyDeleteYou haven't posted in 5 weeks... how am I suppose to cyber stalk you?
So how did you guys do on your New Year's resolutions? :)
